MANCHESTER……….1.5.’10……….Brian Fox

Always a pleasure to judge at this show, especially in my new capacity as Des Leigh’s understudy. As has always been the case here, quality of Burmese was exceptional, and a great pleasure to admire.

Class 417. Burmese Premier Female (2) Gr. Pr: Giles’ Ch. & Gr. Pr. Raweke Mirror Image (20.8.’07). Brown. Just about medium size, elegantly proportioned and muscular, with a balanced, evenly tapering tail. Short, finely textured coat, with a few white hairs around the back of the neck. Very typical head, being broad with a well-formed, short, wedge, and slight rounding of the brow, and between ears of ideal set and shape. Beautifully expressive large, greenish-yellow eyes, with the essential oblique set, slanted upper line, and full lower. In profile, good cranial depth, a distinct nose break, straight nose, and a level chin. The eyes, very definitely, have it. Reserve:Tegg’s Gr. Ch. & Gr. Pr. Minotosa Pandora (17.7.’03). Brown Tort. ). Medium size and elegantly proportioned, with firm muscle, though overweight. Evenly tapering tail just about balances. Short coat of the required fine texture, in particularly good condition. Strong, broad head with excellent, neat and well-set ears, and a short wedge. Large eyes, set obliquely. An excellent profile with a distinct and unexaggerated nose break, straight nose, and a level hin.

Class 401. Burmese Lilac Adult (1 + 4 for BOB; all females) 1st; CC: Giles’ Raweke Inhigh Definition (9.4.’09). Rather petite. Fit, but could do with a little more meat on the back. Balanced, evenly tapering tail. Head needs a little more substance to be exceptional, which is accentuated by big eyes, which can be fairly full, and ears just on the large side of ideal. In profile, an adequate nose break, straight nose, and level chin. An attractive cat that, I believe, will appear better in all departments as she fills out. BOB: Collin’s Imp. Gr. Ch. Aureus Femme Fatale (8.10.’06 – how time flies!). Medium plus (perhaps a size 14) and perfectly elegantly proportioned, and muscular, and carrying a little extra weight as befits a mother. Good tail. Short, finely textured coat, not looking the perfect dove-grey, in this light. Magnificent head: broad and deep, with the correct slight rounding of the brow, and between neat ears that accentuate the short wedge. Correctly set yellow eyes, with slanting upper line and fuller lower, express the unique Burmese look. Beautiful profile – a distinct but unexaggerated nose break, straight nose, and firm chin; the muzzle having an exemplary depth.

Class 407. Burmese Blue Kitten (2 females) 1st; BOB: Catterick’s Cattini La Luna (29.9.’09). Medium size, elegant, and firmly fleshed, with a good tail that easily balances, and a short to medium length, finely textured, and very close-lying coat of mid blue with silvering. Head of good width, with well-set ears, and a medium wedge. Large eyes are obliquely set, but rather full in the upper line. In profile, an acceptable nose break, straight nose, and a level chin. 2ND: McGreevy’s Karlac Pollyanna (18.10.’09). The above critique equally applies to this kitten, as they are similar in features, with really little to separate them.

Class 409a. Burmese Lilac Male Kitten (1) 1st; BOB: Collin’s Aureus Talisman (18.1.’10). Only a baby, so will be much easier to assess in a month’s time, but looking OK for size and conformation, and having a balanced tail. Coat yet to develop, but is clear. Looks very typical, with good width of head, ears that are right for age, a well formed wedge, and correctly set yellow eyes with the required slanting upper line and fuller lower. Nose break is modest, nose almost straight, and a level chin. A very attractive kitten, and I suspect the profile will improve over the coming weeks.

Class 409b. Burmese Lilac Female Kitten (2) 1st: Taylor’s Raweke Goodgolly Missmolly (17.12.’09). Beautifully proportioned conformation, with a very wholesome, well-fleshed feel, and a balanced, evenly tapering tail with rounded tip. Short, finely textured coat of very even shade, and lying perfectly. Good head width with medium wedge, well-set ears, and obliquely set eyes, close to ideal shape. In profile, a modest nose break, straight nose, and a level chin. No doubt someone has been raiding a grandparent’s record collection for names! 2nd: McGreevy’s Karlac Molly (18.10.’09). Medium size for age, and well proportioned, with a good tail, and a short to medium length, finely textured coat. No head faults whatsoever, but needing to be a little more distinctive, particularly in profile, to place higher. A pretty even class, with little to choose between the three, at this stage

. Class 419. Burmese Blue Neuter (1) 1st; PC; BOB: Akehurst’s UK Imp. GC Teapot Podlet (13.11.’03). Male with correctly sized frame, and strong muscle, but overweight so the tail doesn’t look balanced. Short coat of medium-fine texture; clear, and silvered. Acceptable head width, and a medium wedge, with very neat ears, and large, obliquely set eyes with a fuller lower line. In profile, a distinct nose break, straight nose, and a level chin. Extremely amiable! Class 424. Burmese Brown Tort Neuter (1) 1st; BOB: Tegg’s Gr. Ch. & Gr. Pr. Minotosa Pandora (17.7.’03) See class 417 Brian Fox
